Speaking - Part 2

Discourse Markers

In Speaking Part 2 you should not describe each picture separately. Instead, you need to do 3 things: show similarities, differences and speculate.

Here are some phrases for each stage, and if you keep scrolling you will find an example.

Compare the two photographs and say what kind of learning is taking place in each situation and how effective each learning environment might be

Example:

In both pictures I can see people learning something. Both pictures show people studying, but the situations are different. In both pictures there are notebooks and laptops, as well as people concentrating on their work.

It seems like the first picture is a university lecture. It looks like the students are listening to a teacher. It appears that the second picture is a private lesson at home. We could assume the older woman is helping the young man with his studies.

Although both pictures are about learning, they are not the same. While the lecture is more formal and has many students, the second one is quiet and more personal.

Whereas the first picture shows group learning, the second shows one-to-one help. However, both ways can be useful. Personally, I prefer the second option because I like to ask questions and get more help when I need it.
